Photo Shoot!!!! Preloved, are you ready?!

Last week was one of the most amazing weeks I've had in a long time. The company I am interning with, Preloved, gave me a chance to style some of their new line for their new online store. We had an amazing team including Kat, out amazing photographer and Slava our beautiful model.

The day started with me lugging half of my wardrobe on an hour bus ride to the studio for 9am, my grammasack (what I call my thrifted, truly grandma style small luggage bag) filled to the brim with various shorts, pants, crop tops, jackets and jewelry. I had an idea about what I was shooting, but didn't know colour, how they fit on or their silhouettes, so it was truly a toss up between everything I owned vs what we were shooting.

I arrived promptly at 9am and set everything out to be steamed and ready for when the model came in, also taking some time to start planning the outfits.

The shoot went from about 930 am till 530 pm, and I loved every minute of it. I was grinning like a fool the whole time, truly loving what I was doing. I felt like I had found my calling, an was doing a good job going back and forth  picking outfits, changing up hair and using a reflector to create wind during the shoot.

I can't wait to see the final pictures up on the website and to shop some of these wonderful pieces. Check out the website, Getpreloved.com and buy some of these amazing lovingly hand made items!

I would also like to thank Julia of Preloved for giving me this opportunity and teaching me how to fan like a champ! haha

Here are some behind the scenes photos!!

Ladys Sunday Brunch

This past Sunday, my sister put together a little brunch to serve as a meet and greet between her and some of her fellow entrepreneurial friends. There were women ranging from business owners, hair care gurus, event planners, authors and bloggers. I was obviously invited as the little sister, as well as resident photographer for the event.

We made arrangements at the best brunch spot in town, Hot House restaurant, which had amazing food but a serious wait time for our table. After 20 min waiting, we were seated at a gorgeous table set for 20 and put off to the side on a raised section of the restaurant reserved of large parties. Once we put down out coats we were off to the buffet tables which were filled to the brim with everything you could imagine.

After about 4 (or 6) plates, I was put to work as photographer and snapped a few pictures, as well as various outfits from the luncheon.

My outfit :
Dress - Designer called Meg
Accessories - Thrifted
Shoes - Journeys

My sisters outfit (Styled by me)
Dress- H&M
Accessories - Markets
Shoes - Le Chateau

 My pretty Mum <3

We also had a little giveaway action happen provided by Mika Lishauna.
She provided 3 hair care products for one of the lucky ladies to win.

My sister, the lucky winner and Mika!

It was a great to meet all the women there who I made so many new connections with. If you and your friends are looking for a reason to wear some new outfits and have some fun, I definitely suggest planing a brunch date. Easy excuse to get out of the house and enjoy the amazing weather on a budget.

Stay tuned for new reviews and outfit posts!!

Holika Holika on Queen St!

I have noticed in the last little while that a lot of my favourite Korean brands have not only started shipping to Canada, but are also opening shops in Canada. Not just Canada, but in the city where I live! This is definitely a rarity since its usually hard enough to order things online and have it even be able to ship to my home.

The newest shop to open was Holika Holika, which I stumbled upon yesterday during my usual downtown Toronto ambles on my day off. As I was walking down queen street, I had to do a double take at the Holika Holika lettering across the street. Needless to say, I figured I was just having a momentary laps in sight, but low and behold, 15 min before they closed their doors on their opening day, I ran in to see what they had available.

I was so surprised I didn't even get a chance to take pictures of their beautiful products or clean clear layout, but I did pick up a berry lip tint before they announced the tills were closing.

Holika Holika Holy Berry Tint 01:

There are three shades in this collection;

01- red toned
02- pink toned
03- orange toned

I chose to purchase 01 since it gave off a more mature and flattering colour then the pink toned 02. All three looked great on and were reasonably priced at 10 dollars, but I figured I would just get one to test out before I went too crazy.

The texture at first is quite wet and sticky, but within minutes it sinks into your lips and feels like you don't have anything on. During the first application, I don't advise licking your lips because this stuff tastes terrible. It gives off a super fruity lip smacker-esque sent but the taste is quite the opposite. I was happy though that you don't taste anything when its settled into your lips.

Application:

Dabbed

Swiped

Layered

Over all I really like this product, as a lip tint and liquid blush. I recommend it to anyone who wants a natural look - over the top exaggerated colour with a matte finish. It is compact enough to through into your bag, but packs a punch that you can gage and wear all day.

I hope you enjoyed this review!

Thrifting 101 - Value Village Sale Haul

Last Monday was a very fun day for me. Not only did I get a clean bill of health status from my cardiologist, but I also went thrift shopping with one of my best friends.  We hit 3 different value village locations since they were having a 50% off sale. We went to one each separately and then we met up at a huge one in Toronto located at Victoria park and Eglington.

My first stop was the one closest to my house where I did most of my thrifting damage. All together I purchased 16 items and spent a total of 61 dollars. I may have went a little crazy in the hour and a half I was in the store, but there were so many good things to grab and look at!

Tip 1: Make a list, plan it out!

As soon as I walked into the store, I grabbed that last cart known to man at that point and headed straight for the blazer and jacket section. I always make a plan before hand, and a list of things I hope to find before stepping foot in the store. This helps to keep me on track, and stops me from buying useless things I will never wear... for the most part. After grabbing  30+ items, I figured I should park myself in front of a mirror and take a look at what I had picked up.

Tip 2: Try on as much as you can outside of a fitting room!

I always hate going into fitting rooms when I go thrifting, mainly because the rooms are tiny, dimly lit  cages where you can't  get a good look at what you actually have on. Not to mention line ups on days like Monday usually take anywhere from 15-45 min before you even see a change room available. I usually have tights and a tank top on so i can just try everything on outside, but as I had a quickly approaching Drs appointment, I had to throw things on and off as quickly as possible.

Tip 3: Eliminate the unnecessary!

While I was trying on I realized most things I had picked up were either not the right size, not for me, or had a few imperfections. This quickly helped to lessen the load of clothes as I made executive decisions to make sure I was getting great pieces and not just closet stuffers. I always say its best to try new styles or trends at a thrift store since your paying a third of the price anyways, but if it isn't working out then things are going back on the shelf.

Tip 4: Do a Round 2!

After I had gotten through my cart, I referred back to my list to see how many things I actually picked up, and what I still needed to get. I always do a round to whether I picked up everything or not just to make sure I didn't miss out on any great pieces that I bypassed on my initial hunt.

Tip 5: Check your items and your tags!

By the end of the night I had 3 bags in toe and 20 items which came to about 4 dollars each! From my list I had prepared, I walked away with 10 times crossed off and I am extremely happy with everything I purchased. Nothing had any stains, tears or imperfections, and some items I purchased were real leather or made in France, Canada and the USA. Always check your tags to see care instructions, materials used and where items were made. You may be pleasantly surprised by what you find!

Now for all the goodies I purchased!!

Back to Blogging! Life Update!

To anyone that has been following my blog for a while, you'll notice i tend to take a bit of a hiatus during the winter months. I don't know what it is but I tend to get lazy / not so motivated / busy doing something and usually forget to post...for that I'm sorry. Good news is, I always come back!

Lately I've been busying myself working full time as a Personal Stylist as well as a Fashion Intern, and I've been loving it. I have reached new heights as well as grown up a lot, both lifestyle and fashion wise. Ive been trying to get more "forever" pieces and stopped going for ultra trendy things that will rot in the bottom of my closet by the end of the week. Not to say I don't get the odd piece, but now I try to find those items that will take me throughout the whole season, not just a day of it. So far I've saved a lot of money and also have way more space in my wardrobe and less headaches on what to wear in the mornings.

Lifestyle wise I have become more healthy with vigorous workouts and a changed diet. The last time I bought junk food was maybe 3 months ago, and I have been learning how to cook all of my favourite meals. I do my own groceries now full of fresh veggies, fruits and things high in protein, and have been drinking a lot more water. I used to hate drinking water for some reason but now I drink at least 2 bottles a day.

So this is basically just a quick update on my life as well as what I've been doing for the last few months. Stay tuned for more posts, I promise!

See, I'm still alive!

QUICK SURVAY!! Would you buy stuff if i had a Blog Sale??
